On This Day In Rock History …

Can it be 34 years already? On November 12, 1984, Madonna released Like a Virgin, her sophomore album that would inspire legions of lingerie-clad teens and pre-teens (and cause nervous hand-wringing among some more conservative-minded folks). It was also her first album to make a No. 1 appearance on the Billboard 200 charts.

Even beloved spoof artist Weird Al Yankovich got in on the act, recreating the title track with “Like a Surgeon” in 1985. The parody was actually co-written (and titled!) by Madge herself. Not something Weird Al does often, but even back then there was no saying “no” to Madonna.

Cheers to her Madgesty from the Virgin Wines team!
